Last week, I posted about what Alexa ranking is and does. I wanted to take a little bit deeper look at why a blogger would care about it. The first and most obvious is that like subscribers or page views, it shows how popular a blog is. The lower the number, the more popular the page. Some of the PF blogs in the top 100,000 are

So what does it tell you about these sites? Well from a reader point of view, it tells me that they take their blogs seriously. It tells me that a lot of other people find their posts educational or amusing. It tells me that they work hard to keep their readers interested and engaged.

From an advertisers standpoint, these bloggers are reaching large numbers of people and engaging them enough that they come back frequently. They click on the link in their rss readers to read the posts and it’s likely that while they are there they may click on an advertisers link.

So what is your Alexa Ranking? Although I hate math, I like numbers and while I am not very competitive with other people, I like being able to compete with myself a bit. So I am using the Alexa ranking widget in the upper left as a check to see where I am and whether I am improving or not.

My page rank 4 days ago when I installed the widget and the firefox extension was 7,902,243 and today it’s 5,374,971. That’s 2 mill in 4 days. At this rate, I’ll be in the top 100,000 by next month. I honestly think that it is just getting it on their radar more than anything else.

Help keep me awake to write by buying me a cup of coffee! .
