Sunday’s Gratitudes

In one of the books I have read recently the author pointed out that if we spent as much time being grateful for the things that we have, we would have a lot less time lusting after the things we don’t have.  I have found this to be true and I have also found that when I get overwhelmed by the bills, debts, mortgage, and so on, it helps to remember all the things that I have.

I thought that I would list some of them here and maybe it would remind some of you how lucky you are too.

My family - both my parents, my children and my grandchildren are so important to me.  I am so thankful that they are all happy and healthy and mine!

My best friend, Ned who has supported me emotionally, mentally and even showed up once with a carload of groceries.

My own health because without it, I would really be in deep trouble.   At almost 50, I am on no regular medications and have only been to the doctor once in the last two years for an illness.

I am thankful for my home.  It isn’t the Ritz but I have worked hard and sacrificed much to keep it over the last year.

I am thankful that I have a skill that I can use to make a living.  It may not be a great living right now but it will grow.

I am thankful that I started this website and have come to know so many helpful and supportive people because of it which brings me to a bit of Sunday Link Love.  I am thankful for everyone who stops by to read and share their thoughts with me.  If you enjoy this blog, I am sure that you will enjoy reading these:

Gather Little By Little has a post on enabling the perpetually poor.  I have to admit that I have been on both sides of this equation.  It is hard not to help your kids when you see them struggling but I have also been the struggling kid.  You will want to read Frugal Dad’s Post on Language of the Perpetually Poor as well.

Squawkfox (yes that is the name of Fox’s site) has an article that I just had to include just for the photography.  This visitor was photographed in her backyard! Be sure to check out some of her other posts too!

Remodeling This Life has tips to keep your air conditioning bill lower.  I have this one beat — No a/c but she has some good tips to remember as the weather starts warming up.

I’ve Paid For This Twice Already is letting us know that the economic stimulus checks are starting early.  This may be the only time the government is ever AHEAD of schedule!

Ana at Debt Free Revolution has a couple of posts that caught my eye.  One is on how to pay for college and the other is a response to a comment.  It’s entitled Raiding Your Retirement is a Huge NO NO! As you will see in the comments, I did this in the last year.  I saved my house but I am starting over with the retirement fund, not a good place to be when I’ll turn 50 next month.

And last but certainly not least, Trent at The Simple Dollar has a post on things he has left undone.  I’m going to follow some of his tips as my own list is growing longer and longer.
