Over the last several months, paying the business bills has been a grueling process.  When the first of the month arrived, I was still struggling to get enough money together to pay them.   One or the other of them has been days or even weeks late while I tried to get enough money gathered to pay them.  This whole cycle started when Capital One froze my bank account.

This month, for the first time since then, I have had enough money in the bank to meet all my business expenses.  Woooo Hoooo!  I sent off payments on the first and still had a bit of money left afterwards.  I can tell you that this hasn’t happened because I am making more money at work.  Business has actually slacked off a bit with the economy.  People are still getting their dogs groomed but they are doing it less often.  This means that while my client base has grown, it has not increased my income.

I am driving 100 miles a day back and forth to work.  I have started closing on Monday because I don’t have enough business the rest of the week to make it worthwhile to drive an extra day so I have been thinking about making a grooming shop at home and starting to groom there on days when I don’t go to the shop.  It’s a different area and ideally I would like to build enough business to eventually work from home full time.  It will be slow going but the expenses would be so much less.

For this month, I am celebrating being ahead instead of behind.  I fully believe that you have to celebrate the small victories or the stress will wear you down.

Any victory, however small, is STILL a Victory!

    Congrats on the speedy recovery.

And, if local ordinances allow it, working from home is great – just try to remodel frugally :)
And if you work a spreadsheet on it, you’d find that with the cost savings of no commuting and no 2nd building overhead, plus some office/workspace in your home tax deductions, you would probably only have to work 1/2-3/4 of what you are now to bring in the same amount of profit! (After the remodeling/upgrades/2nd set of equipment/ etc)

Isn’t it amazing how good it feels to be on top of the financial situation, even if for just one month?

    Good going.

And I agree about trying the dog grooming at home.
