My morning routine is usually pretty simple.  I get up, start a pot of coffee, slip on a pair of shoes and a jacket and then run out to stoke the wood furnace.  The snow complicated things just a bit this morning.  As you can see from the picture, we had about 4 inches of snow and I spent a good bit of time just knocking the snow off the wood.

Snow on the wood furnace

Randy wants to build a shed over the furnace and woodpile.  Marci is going to tell me we need one.  Ok, I admit that I see the light here except that we only have snow once or twice a year.  I think by this time next year we will probably have one.

Going out to the wood furnace in the morning is not my favorite job but when the electric bill comes, I do appreciate it.  Our February bill was only $92.  Our January bill was a bit higher at $121 but we ran the dryer a lot due to rain and we had to have the heat lamp on in the pump house because we had over a week of single digit temperatures.

It helps the budget a great deal not to have a heat bill especially when it also means free hot water.
