Post Holiday Blues, Nope Reality Bites!

Well, I just bit the bullet and spent yesterday closing out my books for the year. If I felt broke before, I feel broker now. I suppose that with all the spreadsheets and looking at gross income, I never looked at net profit.
I think I may be taking Frugal to a new high in 2008 as my average net profit from my first four months of business was approximately $500 per month. Eeeek!! I’ve been lucky in that my first four months of business coincided with some additional income that I had coming in but that is gone now and the reality is that I have to find a way to increase my bottomline fast or learn how to cook dog hair.
Business has been picking up every month but not enough that the January outlook is acceptable and probably not February either. By March, I should be doing ok if I continue to get new customers at the same rate as Sept-November.
If anyone has any ideas on how to advertise a pet grooming business on tight budget, shout them out. Internet is pretty much out, as there is no broadband available here. Dial up is painful so no one surfs much. I am going to be doing an email campaign and I am doing a referral discount. Word of mouth has been the best advertisement I have found so far.
In the meantime, anyone have any dog hair recipes?

Hi,
I once found a pet grooming service on the bulletin board at the vet’s office! That was really good way of doing it because going to the vet obviously focused my mind to everything about my pet and there was grooming! Though I didn’t need it at that time, I still took one of their flyers home and eventually tried their service. We also get flyers in our mailbox.
Good luck!
That’s a great suggestion, Tasha. I have cards at one of the local vets but could hit the road and take flyers to all of them. Introduce myself while I am at it since I’m fairly new in town. Thanks!
[...] the fact that I have recently bought a business and while it is steadily growing, I don’t get a set amount of money every week or every month. Some months I have a little left over and some months I am way in the red. January was one of those months as you can see from post holiday reckoning. [...]
