I stumbled across your blog this morning as I was researching gardens. I know NOTHING about gardening, but my husband and I have toyed around with the idea of starting one for a while now. Earlier this week, I'd wondered aloud to him if we could use a kiddie pool to start a small vegetable garden. He's going to get a kick out of this picture!

debtdieter, you can grow a garden in an apartment. It is just on a smaller scale but it is just as rewarding.

Peter,
I have seen beautiful antique wooden potty chairs turned into planters. They are gorgeous! On the lighter side, check out this article on toilet planters. http://www.cincypeddler.com/Anderson/anderson.htm

The toys would make a great children's garden, don't you think?

You've inspired me to take another look at my ever growing accumulation of junk to see just what I can use for container gardens. It'll certainly add a bit of color and novelty to the place having lettuce growing out of the back of a toy truck, or tomatoes growing out of a no-longer-used-but-yes-definitely-clean potty

Love the shot with the chicken (rooster?) in the background! :-)

Good on you making use of what you already had. I envy your space, I'm an an apartment so no room for that level of gardening unfortunately.

Granny, It certainly is a childs wading pool. It's been sitting around doing nothing until today. I had to drill a few holes in mine to make sure it would drain. I don't want my veggies wading.

Is this a child's wading pool thingie? I have an old one stuck around the back of my house waiting for me to take it to the tip. It won't hold water anymore and it never crossed my mind that it can hold dirt!
Thanks for opening my eyes :)
